Our team of physicians, designers, economists, developers, public health professionals, and educators bring a unique mix of design, adolescent health, digital health expertise, economic and health outcome evaluation, and implementation know-how to the global problems facing youth. We have offices in the US and Rwanda, but are currently supporting our teams to work remotely during COVID-19.

JOB SUMMARY
The Associate Project Director is responsible for the management and delivery of large scale design and research projects. As a senior leader of the project team, you will ensure seamless cross-functional coordination of all activities related to your assigned project(s), leading to high-quality work. In consultation with the Portfolio Lead, the Associate Project Director will lead the management of assigned projects helping to ensure that all project requirements and timelines are on track. This role will be responsible for the management of a project focused on supporting young people in Tanzania to have improved health and livelihoods, focused on Dar es Salaam, Morogoro and Zanzibar geographic areas. You’ll oversee three distinct workstreams led by senior design and technical staff. The role will be based in Dar es Salaam, with some requirement for travel to support field activities.
This is a full-time, 2-year contract role which requires the ability to legally work in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. You will be collaborating with an in-country team, as well as our wider global team in Rwanda and the USA.

YLabs adheres to Project Fair’s principles and standards to establish equity in pay with the overriding principle of “equal pay for work of equal value” outlined in the Sustainable Development Goals. All salary ranges are based on level within the organization and are competitive to regional and national salary benchmarks, based on the respective office location.
PAY RATE
This is a fixed rate two-year contract from October 2022 through September 2024
The pay range for this position is TSH69,900,000 ($30,000 USD) – TSH105,000,000 ($45,000 USD) per year, commensurate with experience.
YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:
Project Management
● Collaborate closely with all project team members, monitoring day-to-day activities of the project team and ensuring that work is progressing as planned.
● Ensure key project milestones and deliverables are met according to the approved work plans and that all deliverables undergo internal reviews to ensure quality.
● Implement and maintain consistent project management tools and systems to support collaboration and effective and timely delivery of project deliverables
● Coordinate all team meetings, in collaboration with the project’s design or technical lead, taking a proactive approach to support effective internal communication
● Support project budget monitoring, helping to ensure that project costs remain within budget
● Develop risk mitigation plans in partnership with the project team and support the implementation process, ensuring the team is proactively mitigating high impact risks
● Actively participate in problem-solving and troubleshooting
● Work collaboratively with the Portfolio Lead, and Operations team to identify, hire and manage contractors, ensuring all administrative activities are completed in accordance with YLabs policies and procedures
● Manage all administrative needs pertaining to fieldwork and travel
● Facilitate intermittent reflection and review meetings at key moment in the project timeline, to identify and mitigate any current or anticipated challenges
● Work collaboratively across departments and teams as needed to launch new projects, brief staff as needed to onboard and inform new project team members
Reporting & Partnership Management
● Oversee knowledge management: ensure correct storage and access permission for all necessary documents. Monitor the security of confidential project materials, in line with our established processes.
● With support from the Portfolio Lead and Finance Team, you’ll coordinate the timely submission of monthly financial reports.
● You’ll work with the technical and design team members to coordinate and submit quarterly narrative reports
● Proactively identify and escalate project issues to the appropriate internal and external stakeholders to ensure the health of the project, project team, and organization is maintained
Organizational Strategy
● Participate in the Programs Departmental meetings and initiatives that support the achievement of the organization’s strategic priorities
● Support the development, testing, and implementation of new processes, procedures, and tools relating to project management, budgeting, and people operations using change management principles
● Participate in other working groups as needed

YOU HAVE:
● Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; with a preferred 10+ years of project management experience
● Experience working in public health, economic inclusion, or international development fields
● Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to motivate, support, and coordinate multiple teams and manage multiple workstreams
● Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills in a rapidly moving environment
● Previous experience with developing and tracking detailed workplans for complex projects with multiple workstreams
● Proficiency in Excel, G Suite, and project management tools (ie. Trello, Asana, Gantt charts, Microsoft Project, or similar)
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills; fluency in English and Swahili
● Experience working with donors and partners in a highly collaborative environment;
● Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to track and record projects through to completion
● Experience managing and coordinating field activities including research
● Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision
● Experience working effectively both with a multidisciplinary team across different time zones.
DESIRABLE:
● Digital health experience
● Experience of compliance with USAID funding
● Experience working with multidisciplinary, globally distributed teams
● Working proficiency in another language
